Easy Sausage Rolls (4 ingredients)
Updated: Dec 16, 2020
This easy sausage roll recipe is definitely one to keep up your sleeve as I think sausage rolls are such a versatile snack. Going on a picnic, you take sausage rolls, having a party, of course, you have sausage rolls on the buffet table, need a warming snack on a winters afternoon, put some sausage rolls in the oven. You catch my drift!
They are perfect to make with your junior chefs as well, so why not get everyone involved and make a big batch of these up!
Ingredients:
8 pork sausages, skinned
2 tbsp white breadcrumbs
500g puff pastry (homemade or shop-bought if you prefer)
1 egg
Sesame seeds
Method:
Preheat your oven to 180°C fan and line a baking tray with baking paper
Firstly, start by skinning your sausages. To do this easily, score a line down one edge of the sausage and peel the skin from around the sausage
In a large bowl, add your skinned sausages and mash together with a fork to break up the meat
Add the breadcrumbs and mix again
Roll out your puff pastry and evenly cut into three strips lengthways - mine are about 3" wide each
Line a thin layer of sausage meat down one side of the pastry lengthways, leaving a small edge between the sausage meat and pastry on one side and a larger gap the other side
In a small bowl, crack one egg into it and whisk it to make your egg wash
On the smaller edge, using a pastry brush, brush a small amount of egg wash along the edge of the pastry
Then, fold the larger edge of pastry over the sausage meat and press to seal the gap
Cut into 1" pieces and place on your baking paper, fold side down
Brush all the sausage rolls with your egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds
Bake in the oven for 15 minutes. To check they are cooked, break one apart and check that the sausage meat is piping hot.
